Hello Everybody! First off, welcome to my blog and to this community. To get started I wanted to share with you all what is destined for this blog and a little about me. I am confident that you will be able to find something here or there that is pertinent to your life and that can ultimately take your health to the next step. We all have to start somewhere, one small change can make a lasting impact on your life! I am here to share with you the newest research with tips and how to REALISTICALLY apply it in your own life. As a Registered Dietitian, I am a food and nutrition expert and have the background and the expertise to give you a positive outlook on maintaining or reaching a healthy weight. I want to share with you the dedication and motivation that it takes to be a healthier you and the innumerable rewards that come with it. I hope to ingrain nutrition and health into your daily life, just as I work hard to make it part of mine.
I came from a family of 5 and was lucky to have a mom who was able to stay home for most of my childhood and therefore ensuring healthy family meals daily. Whether I had just come home from sports practice or my brother and dad were on their way out to boy scouts, family dinner was a constant in our live (largely in part to my father’s very attuned belly alarm). We were active as individuals and as a family, logging many miles around the street with our beloved yellow lab Dewey, participating in sports, scouts and marching band. Even our annual family Christmas gatherings includes some physical competition, like a intense silly string battle or a show of strength though a pushup contest. It was only natural and fitting that nutrition and health was slowly into an interest, then a career, and ultimately a passion.
UPDATE March 2014
What an exciting year for me and this blog! Not only am I now working in my dream job, I am also planning my wedding, taking online graduate classes and still blogging away! As a weight management dietitian I have the
privilege of helping others on their own personal journey as they achieve a higher quality of life through lasting changes.
One road I went on during the last year was gluten free, and therefore ever since this blog has been dedicated to gluten free recipes and ideas. Not only do I feel better when I do not include gluten in my diet, but my mom was diagnosed with Celiac’s Disease and therefore I am at a higher genetic risk for gluten sensitivity. I have also learned to listen to my body and how I am feeling. Ultimately, I didn’t know that I was not living in my highest quality of health until I removed gluten from my diet. It is a two week experiment that everyone should try.
Now more than ever, I fully believe that the food that you put into your body is more than just calories and energy. Quality is very important as well. My once skinny-fat boyfriend who was a heart attack waiting to happen (just over a year ago) has radically improved his health. High cholesterol, high triglycerides, basically pre-diabetes and pre hypertension…. ALL REVERSED through diet and exercise alone. I am so proud of him and proud to be able to call him my fiance as well.
So I hope you can find a recipe or a blog entry that may motivate you to improve your health. I love to hear feedback, so please comment and let me know if you try any of the recipes that I post. Stay tuned for this exciting year and for all the new recipes and health tips to come!
