What I’m Eating Wednesday! Cincinnati Edition! Recap: August 7, 2013

Welcome to the Cincinnati edition of What I’m Eating Wednesday! This post, along with next week’s post from Wisconsin, will definitely prove that I am not perfect and that I am a human just like everyone else! Today happened to be one of days we explored the city by food, while spending time with family and friends

Breakfast

For breakfast I stuck with the reliable Larabar. I went for a 4 mile run, and didn’t need a huge breakfast because I knew what was waiting ahead for me…

We went to downtown Cincinnati and met my mom and a friend from college, Josh, on Fountain Square for lunch. We picked up Tom + Chee, which serves “gourmet” tomato soup and grilled cheese. I chose the ‘build your own’ option, with gluten free bread, fresh mozzarella, smoked gouda, grilled mushrooms, tomatoes, greens and chicken. Wes had a grilled cheese with pepperoni as well as a cup of the tomato soup (which I got to try). This is a new local place with a few locations scattered around the city, and we were very satisfied and glad we checked this one out!

As Wes and I continued to explore the city, I realized that so much has changed since I graduated and left, and that the city is looking awesome! The Reds were in town for a day game today, so there were swarms of people everywhere along the banks. We stopped by the Christian Moerlien Lager House for a drink on the riverfront, after a long stroll through the city. I enjoyed a nice glass of my favorite wine, a moscato, and Wes enjoyed some beer (blah!)

An early happy hour with my favorite.... moscato!

For dinner we met up with some more of my relatives at LaRosa’s. I have always loved their salad and helped myself to three bowls. My mom and I tried one of their “skinny” selections on a wheat crust. There were also breadsticks and pan pizza hanging around, which I may have (but definitely did) had a bite or two… LaRosa’s is, and always will be, a reminder of my youth, bringing back many good memories.

We rounded out the night with a trip down to Putz’ Creamy Whip. Not only is this my favorite creamy whip, it is my first place of employment. So yes, this dietitian’s first job was serving soft serve ice cream at one of the local Cincinnati classics. I had a small vanilla cone with crunch topping and helped myself to a couple bites of Wes’ peanut butter cup cyclone.

Still tastes just the same!

So yes, we are full to the brim and had a great day eating our way around Cincinnati. Not every day has been this full of food and flavor, but luckily I was able to share a few classics with you today.
